Kaylee Tankus…

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on September 20, 2010

I feel as though every season we are continually bringing in brands that push the limit of creativity and fashion.  So what happens when you get the perfect blend of basics and fashion forward aesthetic?  Perfection…and this is exactly what Tankus has accomplished this season.  The fall blazer EVERYONE needs, a layered silk blouse or a stunning dress it seems as though Kaylee has everything covered.

Technostyle fabrics along with a mixture of oriental taste and western style lends to a creativity not seen in enough brands lately.  This collection is no exception and should be seen in person to understand really how amazing it is…

Did someone say Rad by Rad Hourani?

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on September 16, 2010

I feel like every time I lay my eyes on the Rad by Rad Hourani collection I envision experimentation with fabrics, draping and shapes all coming together into a harmonious and ‘seamless’ story told with fashion.

This season, each piece provides one with so many different options of how to wear it making it so unbelievably versatile.  Usually I am not too fond of too many ‘extras’ but with Rad it just seems as though it is naturally part of the line.  It should also be noted that one of the more interesting concepts behind Rad by Rad Hourani is his ability to create a unisex line that appeals to both genders, while still maintaining a balance between the two…see for yourself.

Yes that is but ONE piece…

Available in store and online now. Rad by Rad Hourani Multi Scarf $150 and Zipper Cardigan $480

Philip Sparks. A new brand a new season.

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on September 8, 2010

We recently received shipment of acclaimed Canadian designer Philip Sparks for Fall/Winter 2010.  The menswear designer did not disappoint with this years collection, encompassed by a mariner theme; tweed, wool and jersey were found throughout the collection.  His garments and fabrication reference vintage detailing and classic tailoring, while at the same time incorporating a contemporary sensibility that connects with men looking for quality, fit and functional clothing they can look sharp in every day.

Stop by the store and pick up some of his key pieces for fall, including the wool cashmere raw edged waistcoat and beautifully finished double breasted cotton cardigan.

I must also remind our readers that all garments are Canadian made from start to finish.

Frank Chaydez

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on September 1, 2010

When we came across Frank Chaydez‘s collection last year we were blown away.   It’s rare to come across independent handbag designers who use such great quality leather, the sheer softness is crazy.   However, it isn’t just the quality and craftmanship that won us over, it’s his designs.

Incorporating skulls and triangular studs not only gives each piece a bit of rocker attitude but it separated itself from the other brands who subscribe to the the total minimalist approach.  Its refreshing to finally have a bag maker who is willing to think outside the proverbial ‘bag’ and create something that is both aesthetically beautiful, functional and has an edge to it, especially at such reasonable prices.

Frank Chaydez hits both the male and female market but to be completely honest I feel like both man and woman can rock the bags or wallets in stock.

Come and see for yourself….

Pleasure Principle has just arrived.

Posted in Fashion, Uncategorized by upc boutique on August 20, 2010

Pleasure Principle is one of those brands that has flown under the radar yet has been around since 2002.  Residing from NY this label’s aesthetic can be described as “casual bondage”–dark and subversive imagery and graphics, paired with loose silhouettes.

Truth be told it took awhile for me to get on the Pleasure Principle bandwagon but I am ENTIRELY convinced now.  First off it fits perfectly with the aesthetic of the store but its the designs, fabric and creativity that essentially won me over.  The line combines both an imaginary and functional feel to it.  Beautifully designed t shirts with uncharacteristic silhouettes compliment each other perfectly.  It’s like having a little from column A and a little from column B.

Since we’ve received shipment it has been unbelievably well received and will not be around for long.  If this is any indication fall is shaping up to be an excellent season…see for yourself.

UPC’s Look of the Week.

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on August 20, 2010

On her:

Dress by Pleasure Principle $285
Vest by Thomas $ 140

On him:

Cape by Pleasure Principle $ 230
Pants by Dark Matter $198

These two outfits in my mind are simple with a touch of creativity.  The outfit on her is almost perfect for almost any setting.  Be it relaxed or formal the Thomas vest achieves both looks.  For the man, one of the pieces for fall that we feel will be a ‘statement’ piece is the cape by Pleasure Principle.  We’ve just received our fall stock and you will not be disappointed (blog entry to come).  You will notice that capes and ponchos are going to be very popular this fall and are going to be perfect for those fall nights.  As you can see I am already eagerly anticipating not only fall shopping but the sheer idea of layering!

As always, the looks of the week are subject to a 10% discount.  Also, don’t forget that we offer FREE shipping in Canada!

New for Fall…Henrik Vibskov

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on August 18, 2010

I think it’s high time that we let it out of the bag that we’ve added acclaimed designer Henrik Vibskov to the list of designers for this F/W 2010.  To say we are excited is an understatement.  Henrik’s line is one that we have had our eye on for a very long time.  It fits in tremendously well with our already existing brands and it epitomizes what UPC stands for luxurious, edgy, contemporary and trend setting.

His pieces can be outlandish and impratical sometimes but they are beautifully creative and will surely give you that ONE statement piece everyone needs each and every season.  Rest assured we will also be bringing in some more minimal pieces we just wanted to show you how outlandish the ladies at UPC can get…

Here is a peek at what to expect from Henrik…

Scarves…

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on August 9, 2010

For the first time this summer I didn’t have to roll up my sleeves and while I was disappointed that the weather was getting colder this just means for the fashion inclined that it’s time to layer.  And this is why FALL is the absolute best season.  Now I’m not telling you to start getting out your winter clothes just yet but there are certain pieces that make the transition from summer to fall absolutey perfect.  And to coincide with our current obsession on accessories I couldn’t find a more fitting piece than scarves.  We’ve just received shipment of Shai Shanti.  Beautifully crafted, stunning colours and an assortment of different materials each scarf feels like it tells a different story.

And just when you thought it was safe to stop spending money…we reel you back in!

Fall is upon us…not literally but ‘productally’

Posted in Uncategorized by upc boutique on July 23, 2010

Regardless of what you think of the word ‘productally’, my grammar was never my strong suit; truth be told making up words is my speciality.  With that being said, I am unbelievably happy to report that Margarita Saplala’s F/W 2010 line is slowly showing up on our doorstep and I feel like it’s christmas.  One thing to learn about having your own store…you CAN NOT buy everything you bring in no matter how bad you want it.

When we first placed our order almost a year ago one of the pieces that stood out the most were the printed pants.  We have always emphasized the purchase of statement pieces especially in an economy where customers are reducing the amount they’re spending on clothes.  Ultimately each and every purchase becomes all that much more important.  One of the things I appreciate most about these pants are that they are lightweight enough to be a perfect transitional piece from summer into fall when we’re faced with some cold nights.

Now while I have extolled the virtues of the printed pant people need to come by the store to see the new dresses which in my opinion are stunning…the electric blue being the prize of the collection.

This is one of those lines that needs to be seen in person to really appreciate how incredible her pieces are in terms of colour, fabric and construction.  So pop on by already!

I know it’s summer…but…

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on July 2, 2010

How can you not get excited for Fall Merchandise.  Summer merch is on sale, product is getting thinner and thinner everyday which means…here comes Fall!  How can I think like this?  Well truth be told, Fall is BY far my most favourite fashion season.  It has the aspects of both hot and cold meaning you can have a great crossover from both seasons.  I live in long sleeves come cold weather and combine that with the number of options we are bringing in for Fall; I think I’m in heaven!

So with that, I thought I would show you a little ‘sneak’ peek of our upcoming buy.  Some of our favs…

From Margarita Saplala:

Margarita Saplala is by far the brand I am most excited for coming this Fall.  Their colours, fits and pieces are both elegant, relaxed and hang off the body perfectly.  It’s like combining both bohemian and high end into one.  Dare I say a hippie fashionista .

House of Dagmar:

And my favourites….Velour:

Somehow each and EVERY year Velour sucks me into buying their buttons downs…why?  Because they are absolutely some of the best fitting and most creative ones out there.  Gets me every time with the contrasting colours.  Damn.  Them.

More sneak peeks to come over the summer…but this is just the beginning.
