Long and Flowy…a fall trend.

Posted in Uncategorized by upc boutique on October 13, 2010

Long, overized, assymetrical – we’re loving it all right now!!  Especially pieces that can be dressed up or down yet have that ability to change your entire outfit with one swing of the fabric.

What can’t be forgotten is that a piece does not necessarily have to be form fitting to be flattering.  It is ultimately all about the way you wear it and this is exactly what makes each of these pieces so special.  Pairing them with some extra long leggings makes the outfit perfect for this season and we always recommend an accessory or two…

I must also temper this post with the fact that I am absolutely in love with the colour navy for this season – especially when paired with something black.

Suit FW 10

Posted in Uncategorized by upc boutique on October 6, 2010

With the fall/winter season fast approaching we wanted to bring in pieces that were not only functional for the cold weather ahead but that really stood apart from the rest.  The Suscel sweater from Danish label Suit will definitely keep you warm but they’ve done an amazing waxed treatment to the knit which coats it with a beautiful shine.  This slim fitting chunky knit sweater wears well with a slim cut pant or jeans or a great drop crotch trouser such as the Less Baggy Pant by Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair! (Can be purchased at http://www.upcboutique.com or in store now)

Suit continues their dominance of the season with an absolutely beautiful cardigan.  The wooden buttons and pattern/colour choice of this piece are on point.  You can pair it with a fitted grey trouser and black boots and you have a perfect outfit for a Fall day.

Quatro-T, finally a womens bag worth carrying…

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on September 28, 2010

Here at upc, we’ve avoided carrying womens bags for the last 3 years.  Trust me, we’re both crazy about handbags but its been almost impossible to find a collection worth bringing in that combines good quality, a clean design sense at a price point under $500.

When Tarek Al-Azbat first introduced us to Quatro-T we were so excited by the combination of minimalism with an emphasis on detail.  Their colours are simply…Black, but the key to their looks are subtle silver clasps, zippers and snaps that ultimately make the bags wearable, versatile and fashionable while maintaining a classic silhouette.  Throw in impossibly soft, yet durable leather, ( it feels like it’s melting in your hands) and we were sold!

Perfect for both an evening out or as a daily messenger, so you never need to worry where you’re going when you have one of these in your hands or over your shoulder.  It is definitely one of our fall must haves or haves if you’re not too late…

Kaylee Tankus…

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on September 20, 2010

I feel as though every season we are continually bringing in brands that push the limit of creativity and fashion.  So what happens when you get the perfect blend of basics and fashion forward aesthetic?  Perfection…and this is exactly what Tankus has accomplished this season.  The fall blazer EVERYONE needs, a layered silk blouse or a stunning dress it seems as though Kaylee has everything covered.

Technostyle fabrics along with a mixture of oriental taste and western style lends to a creativity not seen in enough brands lately.  This collection is no exception and should be seen in person to understand really how amazing it is…

Did someone say Rad by Rad Hourani?

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on September 16, 2010

I feel like every time I lay my eyes on the Rad by Rad Hourani collection I envision experimentation with fabrics, draping and shapes all coming together into a harmonious and ‘seamless’ story told with fashion.

This season, each piece provides one with so many different options of how to wear it making it so unbelievably versatile.  Usually I am not too fond of too many ‘extras’ but with Rad it just seems as though it is naturally part of the line.  It should also be noted that one of the more interesting concepts behind Rad by Rad Hourani is his ability to create a unisex line that appeals to both genders, while still maintaining a balance between the two…see for yourself.

Yes that is but ONE piece…

Available in store and online now. Rad by Rad Hourani Multi Scarf $150 and Zipper Cardigan $480

BARILA,  of  Montreal —  We spoke about them earlier last week as they were one of the features in the ‘look of the week’.  With that being said, we wanted to do a little more of a focus ‘piece’ on this brand.
Her collections are usually characterized by bold prints and vivid colors, with softly tailored shapes where she’s able to  strike the perfect balance between edgy and feminine while also being comfortable.  However, this past season some of her basic pieces (and I only say basic because everyone should have these already in their wardrobe), have taken on some classic colours for the fall/winter season.  Making them versatile for all seasons.  Their blazers come in a grey, black and ivory that are absolutely perfect for making the transition from summer into fall.  The nice thing about these pieces is that they will last well into the spring as either a jacket or layering piece at night.
The other piece we just received is the must have sweater of the season.  Scoop neck, warm enough for fall nights and edgy enough for a night out what else can you ask for?
‘In addition to being manufactured exclusively in Canada with the utmost care and precision, Barila stands apart with her lifestyle dress line which has now extended into an extensive sportswear collection while still staying true to what she loves the most; ideal for the socially active woman who loves to have fun with her wardrobe.’

Philip Sparks. A new brand a new season.

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on September 8, 2010

We recently received shipment of acclaimed Canadian designer Philip Sparks for Fall/Winter 2010.  The menswear designer did not disappoint with this years collection, encompassed by a mariner theme; tweed, wool and jersey were found throughout the collection.  His garments and fabrication reference vintage detailing and classic tailoring, while at the same time incorporating a contemporary sensibility that connects with men looking for quality, fit and functional clothing they can look sharp in every day.

Stop by the store and pick up some of his key pieces for fall, including the wool cashmere raw edged waistcoat and beautifully finished double breasted cotton cardigan.

I must also remind our readers that all garments are Canadian made from start to finish.

Style.com * Complex Geometries * Tara Subkoff

Posted in Fashion by upc boutique on September 3, 2010

After perusing style.com this morning I came across a feature on two of the brands we stock in store, Imitation by Tara Subkoff and Complex Geometries.

Tara Subkoff  was mentioned in the Spring 2011 preview as being the ‘Homecoming Queen’.  They’ve detailed her growth as a designer and how she’s now tailoring her line for women to think less and just wear.

On the other side of the fence (and by fence I mean country),  Complex Geometries was mentioned in the context of Foreign Exchange – Canada.  We’ve watched this brand grow, grow and continue to grow since its inception and are proud to have them as a staple and top brand at the boutique.  Look for an expansion from their signature cotton and wool jersey into the realm of silk and chiffon.

Look for New Complex Geometries arrivals this week and Imitation by Tara Subkoff  for Resort 2011 at upc.
